MongoDB is a cross-platform, document
oriented database that provides, high performance, high availability,
and easy scalability. MongoDB works on concept of collection and
document. The official Ubuntu 16.04 MongoDB packages have not yet been
published by the MongoDB maintainers. This article explains about “How
to install Mongo DB on Ubuntu and start the MongoDB service on boot”
Adding the MongoDB Repository
MongoDB is generally included in a Ubuntu package repositories. However, a legitimate MongoDB repository affords the most upto date version change in an endorsed manner.To carry out this process, we first must import the key for the legitimate MongoDB repository using the following command-
$ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv EA312927The sample output should be like this –

$ sudo apt-get update
Installing and Verifying MongoDB
To install the MongoDB, use the following command –$ sudo apt-get install -y --allow-unauthenticated mongodb-orgThe sample output should be like this –

A unit file tells the system – a way to manage a resource. The most common unit type is a service, which determines how to start or stop the service.
Create a configuration file named mongodb.service to setup unit file as shown below –
$ sudo nano /etc/systemd/system/mongodb.servicePaste the following code –
[Unit] Description=High-performance, schema-free document-oriented database After=network.target [Service] User=mongodb ExecStart=/usr/bin/mongod --quiet --config /etc/mongod.conf [Install] WantedBy=multi-user.targetNow start the newly created service with systemctl as shown below –
$ sudo systemctl start mongodbIt generally doesn’t return any output. Now, we need to check, if the service has started properly. In order to execute this process, use the following command –
$ sudo systemctl status mongodbThe sample output should be like this –

$ sudo systemctl enable mongodbThe sample output should be like this –
